One of the things that wars against our productivity (and does a disservice to others' perception of our ability to get things done) is having an unsightly work area. From crumbs, to loosely scattered paper, to things unrelated to your task at hand taking up your workspace - all these things should be kept to a bare minimum for maximum productivity.Below are some tips:
Keep cleaning supplies within reach. Storing paper towels and multi-surface cleaner in or near your desk for small spills and general cleanup is an effective way to keep your work surface area clean.
Open your mail over the trash bin. This way all loose bits of envelope and paper don't find their way onto your desk, taking up valuable work space.
Use your computer for dates and addresses. By choosing to do away with the desk planner and spiral address book you've kept for years in favor of electronically storing (and synchronizing with your cellular device) this information, you are clearing up a lot of space in your work area.
